In celebration of the 30th anniversary of the founding of the Norwich Centre, this seminar will provide the last opportunity of experiencing at first hand the creative partnership of two of the world’s leading practitioners of the person-centred approach to counselling and psychotherapy. The occasion will be further enriched by the presence, as Chair of the seminar, of Elke Lambers, who worked together with Brian and Dave on both the FDI Britain workshops from 1975 to 1983 and the PCT Britain courses from 1985 to 1997.

Brian Thorne and Dave Mearns have been friends and colleagues for 36 years. During that time they have established university departments, trained countless person-centred therapists and co-authored highly influential books. Their commitment to the person-centred approach and their respective academic and professional careers mean that they share much in common and embrace the same value system and sense of purpose. And yet they are in many ways very different people, not least because Brian's work is grounded in his Christian faith and Dave's in his atheism.

In this seminar Brian and Dave will explore through presentations, dialogue and interaction with participants a number of key issues and questions. They will present examples from their work, discuss concepts they have generated, explore in depth the different grounding of their lives and work and look at the many current threats to being human in the counselling and therapy world.

The theme of being human in the counselling room will permeate the day's work and the seminar promises to provide a provocative forum for the exploration of themes which may well determine the future course of counselling and psychotherapy both in Britain and in the international arena.
