The Norwich Centre offers counselling, workshops and training courses. Counsellors working at the centre are all qualified to Diploma level, or are in training on a Diploma course.

Counselling Young People (11-18 years)

Details are now available and we are now accepting applications for part 1 of the training for working with young people  in partnership with the Mancroft Advice Project.

This training will be based on the BACP training curriculum (Counselling Young People (11-18 years) training curriculum BACP 2017) for working with this age group and informed by the person-centred philosophy and ethos of the Norwich Centre and MAP.

There is rising concern for the mental health of young people and a need for qualified practitioners to deliver counselling in a range of environments in an ethical and effective way.


Course Aims

The overall aim of this training is to enable counselling practitioners to gain knowledge of and competence in working with children and young people aged 11-18 in an ethical and effective way. 


Course Structure

This training will be delivered in two parts; the first part will be an Introduction to Counselling Young People delivered over 4 weekends of 2 days each, and the second part will be a formal award in counselling young people.

Weekends are 9.30am – 4.30pm Saturday and Sunday


Part 1 Introduction to Counselling Young People

The first part of the training is designed to give you the basic skills for working with children and young people age 11-18 years including:



  Ethical and professional practice (1)

·       Communication with young people (1)

·       Beginnings and endings with young people

·       Child protection and safeguarding (1)

·       Risk assessment (1)

·       Mental health and young people

·       Child and adolescent development and transitions (1)

·       Working within the context of the counselling setting
